The Wolverhampton Coronary Aftercare Support Group (WCASG) gathered at the Goodyear Pavilion in Wolverhampton on November 28 for their annual pre-Christmas celebration, an evening filled with festive cheer, heartfelt thanks, and recognition of outstanding contributions.

The Mayor of Wolverhampton, Councillor Craig Collingswood, joined members and supporters to deliver a warm Christmas message and praised the group’s achievements during its milestone 40th anniversary year, highlighting the success of the “What’s Your 40” fundraising campaign and the continued impact of Have a Heart Wolverhampton (HAHW).

He said: “Your work this year has made Wolverhampton a healthier, kinder, and more united city.

With new patrons Hugh Porter MBE and Anita Lonsbrough MBE present, WCASG introduced its own “gold medal awards” to celebrate members’ dedication and creativity.

Six medals were presented to George Shaw as top attendee, John Yates as best fancy dresser, Mark Holmes as top fundraiser, Peter Ransom as longest standing member and David and Sarah Guest for the most inventive What’s Your 40? Challenge.

The highlight of the evening came when Rosalind Leslie, Chair of WCASG, and the Mayor surprised Chris Scordis, Treasurer of WCASG and Director of Have a Heart Wolverhampton (HAHW), with a special gold medal.

A spokesman for WCASG said: "His vision and leadership in creating HAHW were praised for transforming cardiovascular rehabilitation into a welcoming community hub that offers not just exercise, but hope, motivation, and connection.

"The group also celebrated a remarkable fundraising achievement. Setting out in January with a target of £21,000, WCASG raised an astonishing £63,703 through fundraising activities and grant income - tripling their goal.

"The evening was a joyful reminder of the resilience and community spirit that defines WCASG. With laughter, recognition, and festive goodwill, the group now look forward to a bright and healthy 2026."
