The professional conduct panel hearing for the man, who was employed at a school in the city which has not been named, is expected to last three days.

The case has been brought by the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) and concerns a number of allegations of professional misconduct against him.

Opening the case, which is being heard virtually, Felix Keating for the TRA said there were a number of strands to the allegations against the man, all of which would need to be proved by them and there was no onus on him to prove his innocence.

He said the first strand involved the fact he had been convicted of one or more relevant offences - namely one count of common assault and a breach of a non-molestation order against the same person - known as Person A.
