Hundreds of walkers take part in the annual event which also features fundraising. On Sunday (September 14) the Mayor of Wolverhampton Councillor Craig Collingswood will be officially starting the event alongside hospice mascot Custard the Bear at Compton Hall in Compton Road West at 11am.

Councillor Collingswood has chosen Compton Care as one of his charities to support and will be launching the event on the day as well as walking with supporters. “I’m delighted to launch Walk for Compton and am very much looking forward to joining other walkers as we join together in memory of loved ones and raise vital funds to support local people. Every step makes a meaningful difference," he said.

The three-mile route is starting and finishing in the tranquil grounds of the hall site in Wolverhampton, taking in the Smestow Valley Railway Walk and the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal towpath. Pet dogs are welcome to join the special walking festival.

Walkers at the event will have the chance to place special memory tags in the Hall’s Garden of Reflection and pause for a peaceful moment of remembrance. They will also have a ‘Walking In Memory’ back sign to decorate and wear plus they can select a song in memory of their loved one, which will be played during the day.

Compton Care's community and events fundraiser Sally Woods said: “Walk for Compton is more than just a walk, it’s a time to remember and celebrate your loved ones, while raising funds to provide vital care and support to local people living with life-limiting conditions.”

Last year hundreds of supporters took part.
