Zed Ahmed, of BZ Holdings, has submitted amended plans to Wolverhampton Council, which no longer include the clinic, but will include a second school for pupils with special needs, in addition to the one in the original plans.

The company was given permission in 2022 to redevelop the site, which has been empty since the hospital closed in 2006. The original plans involved converting the main building, at the junction of Compton Road and Merridale Road, into 24 apartments alongside a new block of 51 apartments.

The plans also included an eating disorder clinic in the former nurses’ home and a new special educational needs school adjoining that. The number of apartments was later increased to 95.
