Three arrested after video of 'racially aggravated assault' outside Wolverhampton railway station goes viral

Three people have been arrested in connection with a racially aggravated assault outside Wolverhampton Railway Station.

British Transport Police has launched a full investigation into the incident which left a man in his 60s and another in his 70s with injuries that required treatment in hospital. Both have now been discharged.

One 17-year-old boy and two men aged 19 and 25 were arrested and taken into custody in connection to the attack, and were later released on bail.

A video posted on social media on Saturday (August 16) showed two elderly men being attacked by three people outside Wolverhampton Train Station.

X account 'The SikhNet' posted the video, which has been reposted more than 1,600 times and has received more than one million views, and was captioned: "Completely disgraceful and unacceptable racist and hate filled assault on two elderly Sikh men in Wolverhampton. We expect @WMPolice @ukhomeoffice to do much more to tackle the rise in #AntiSikhHate!"

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to a racially aggravated assault around 1.45pm on Friday  (August 15) outside Wolverhampton station.

"Officers attended and three teenage boys were arrested in connection. The victims, two men, attended hospital for treatment and were discharged.

"We’re aware of a video on social media and understand the concern this will have caused in the community. We will not tolerate this sort of behaviour on the railway network and have launched a full investigation.

"Anyone who witnessed what happened [should] text 61016 quoting reference 353 of 15/08/25."
