Colourful cultural history taking shape at Wolverhampton's Medieval Textile Week
Families are flocking to take part in workshops to mark Medieval Textile Week being held at Wolverhampton Central Library this week.
The initiative includes creative works from Wednesfield and Tettenhall and is part of the Aethelflaed Historical Art Trail, a large-scale arts and heritage project being proposed by Tettenhall District Trust to commemorate the Battle of Tettenhall.
The aim is to bridge communities across the city through Anglo-Saxon inspired art and stories in a library setting.
Artist and Medieval Textile Week creative director Rachel Arnold said: " It's Medieval Textile Week and people from all over Wolverhampton can come here. I've got all the materials and threads and we're putting into practice the concept of peace weaving.
"Ancient Anglo-Saxon women like Lady Aethelflaed who defeated the Danes here in the Battle of Teckham and Wensfield also had the job of peacemaking. When she won a battle she also had diplomacy with the Danes and the Anglo-Saxons to make the peace, how to build a city. And every time she won a battle, there would have been stories shared with the women so that's what the thinking is.
