NHS bill backed by Labour leadership
New legislation proposed by a Black Country MP to 'save the NHS' has been backed by the Labour leadership.
Jeremy Corbyn has given his support to Eleanor Smith's bill, which is due to receive its second reading in the House of Commons on November 23.
The 10-minute-rule bill was initially presented in July. Ms Smith says she wants to see the NHS 'properly funded', with profit making companies kept out of service provision.
She has also called for the creation of 'truly accountable' local NHS planning.
Wolverhampton South West MP Ms Smith, a former nurse, said: "I am very pleased to be able to present this bill to put back the NHS as a proper public service and kick out the profit motive.
"It going forward with the support of the Labour leadership and will make a crucial contribution to the forthcoming consultation on the party's health policy.”
