The award, which is now in its fifth year, recognises and celebrates the achievements of youngsters aged 14 to 19 who have made a significant contribution to their communities in Wolverhampton.

The deadline has been extended after it emerged there was a fault with the form on the awards website, which meant that nominations submitted before May 2 may have been lost.

Chairman of the organising committee, Roger Timbrell, said: "Thankfully the fault has been sorted out, and we are giving people an extra couple of weeks to get their nominations in before we start shortlisting the finalists."

Mr Timbrell has asked for anyone who wishes to confirm their nomination or to discuss the nomination process to contact him on 07885 944030 or via roger.timbrell@yahoo.co.uk.

Nominations are being sought from members of the public, family members, teachers and youth leaders who know a young person who has gone the extra mile to help others, their school, youth organisation or the wider community.

Nominees must live, work or study within the city boundaries. The winner will receive a cash prize of £100, as well as £500 for their nominator’s youth group, school, organisation or chosen charity.

It is organised by the city’s five rotary clubs in partnership with Wolverhampton Council, the Express & Star, Wolves, Waitrose and The Way Youth Zone. This year’s ambassador is Wolves star Conor Coady.

Recent winners of the award include Gareth Rafferty, who was recognised for his work with looked after children and care leavers, and Emma Curran, who has represented the city on the National Youth Parliament.
