'Hooray! Town centre road is at last open to two-way traffic' - says Willenhall councillor as £2.5million project nears completion
A Willenhall town centre street has fully re-opened to two-way traffic after the near completion of a £2.5 million cycle lane project which resulted in complaints about dwindling trade.
The cycle scheme on Bilston Street, Rose Hill in Willenhall, is part of the Pinson Road to Rose Hill Cycle Scheme set to be completed this month and part of a two separate Active Travel schemes under construction in Willenhall which are nearing completion.
The Noose Lane to Pinson Road Cycle Scheme will be carried out along the A454 Willenhall Road corridor by Wolverhampton Council and is due to be completed next month depending on weather conditions.
A series of highway works have been taking place to install these including along New Road and Somerford Place to the Keyway Island where the finishing touches are underway.
Labour's Willenhall South ward representative Councillor Simran Cheema said she was pleased to see the opening of the new cycle lanes, but she described the scheme as an example of "bad planning" on the part of the Conservative-led Walsall Council which has apologised for the situation.
