Seven fire engines tackle blaze at commercial unit in Darlaston

Seven fire engines tackled a blaze at a commercial unit in Walsall this morning.

West Midlands Fire Service responded to an incident at Bentley Road South in Darlaston in the early hours of today (February 19).

The fire, which affected a commercial business unit and spread to plastic waste outside the building, was extinguished before 7am.

One fire engine remained in attendance at 9.20am.

"At the height of this incident, seven fire engines from Willenhall, Walsall, Wednesbury, Bilston, Tipton, Bloxwich and Fallings Park were in attendance"

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: "Shortly after 5.25am on Thursday (19 February), we responded to Bentley Road South, Darlaston.

"At the height of this incident, seven fire engines from Willenhall, Walsall, Wednesbury, Bilston, Tipton, Bloxwich and Fallings Park were in attendance, the first of which arrived within five minutes of being mobilised.

"This was a fire in a commercial business unit, affecting processing machinery. The fire had spread to plastic waste outside the building.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire, and we scaled down our resources at around 6.45am. As of 9.20am, one fire engine remains in attendance, with crews extinguishing remaining hotspots."
