Brownhills to receive up to £20m government boost
A further neighbourhood in Walsall has been chosen for a funding boost by the government.
Brownhills is one of the latest areas to receive up to £20million in the Pride in Place programme.
The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government announced the 40 new neighbourhoods enrolled onto the programme on March 20.
The department said the money ‘will support locally-led solutions shaped by the people who know their areas best – not imposed from Whitehall’.
It’s the second neighbourhood in Walsall to be chosen for the programme after Blakenall was announced in the first cohort last year.
The two areas form part of 284 communities across the UK to receive the regeneration money.
Communities Secretary Steve Reed said: “Across the country, people step outside their front door and feel like there is nothing for them: no sense of belonging, no investment in their area, no feeling that anyone is listening.
“Pride in Place backs these people and puts the tools and the money directly in their hands to change that, because strong communities aren’t built for people, they’re built by them.”
Walsall Labour group leader, Councillor Matt Ward, said: “I’m delighted that Labour has shown a strong commitment to improving pride in Brownhills through this £20million investment.
“This is a real opportunity for local people to take control, shape their community, and help restore a sense of pride in Brownhills.”
