Aldridge student makes new film backed by James Brindley Foundation to highlight knife crime problem

Molly Strafford from Aldridge who will turn eighteen in a couple of weeks is set to debut a brand-new film which is set to highlight and raise awareness of knife crime in the area.

Molly who is a student at Lichfield College has created a short film titled 'Switchblade' with a group of students from Aldridge School and a few college friends from the local area. 

It will premiere on April 11th 2026 at Aldridge Youth Theatre, and it has been created in partnership with the James Brindley Foundation, KIC Radio, Aldridge School, and UK Door Systems to help raise awareness of knife crime.

The film is inspired by James Brindley, who at the age of 26, was stabbed to death near his family home in Aldridge in 2017.

A lot of the film's production took place at Lichfield College, the same school that Molly attends, and where James Brindley once attended too. The film will depict an an altercation between two students, and one student is fatally stabbed. 

Molly's mother, Jane Strafford, told the Express & Star, that it was a great community effort and great experience for all that were involved, "It's just a really good film", she said. 

She continued: "It allowed the Year 10 GCSE class to get a lot of experience in filmmaking towards their coursework, and there were students from Lichfield college who were able to use it towards their work experience."

Wendy Morton MP and Councillor Louise Harrison, Mayor of Walsall are set to attend the film screening, as well as representatives of The James Brindley Foundation.

The film will premiere at Aldridge Youth Theatre which is located at Noddy Park Road, Aldridge, Walsall WS9 8NQ. 

Entry price will be £3 per person (Cash Only) and all money that will be raised will go towards The James Brindley Foundation.
