Walsall Council is still awaiting the go-ahead to open its £32 million new 'super tip' - two months after the site was completed.

A spokeswoman for the authority said it was still awaiting permission from the Environment Agency to open the new waste and recycling centre in Aldridge, despite it being completed in September.

In the meantime, the borough is being served by the existing tip in Merchants Way.

The delay has led to criticism from Councillor Graham Eardley, who voiced concerns about the cost of keeping the old site open while the council waits to open the new one.

But the council says the situation has occurred only because the new tip was completed ahead of schedule.

A spokesman said an application was lodged in June 2024, and the normal waiting time was about 18 months - although in some circumstances it can take up to two years.
