New Year's Day crash victim named as Jon Paul Breakwell

Tributes have been paid to a "hugely popular" man killed when his car hit a tree in a crash just minutes into the New Year.

Jon Paul Breakwell, aged 37, died after his silver BMW 3-Series crashed in Aldridge in the early hours of New Year's Day.

Mr Breakwell died at the scene in Pinfold Lane, near Barr Beacon, close to Pheasey and Great Barr.

His family today paid tribute to him in a statement, saying: "We are all devastated and shocked by this tragic incident.

"Jon Paul was fun loving, hugely popular and larger than life. He will be sadly missed."

Mr Breakwell's family are being supported by a specially trained family liaison officer.

West Midlands Police confirmed their investigation into the collision is continuing.

A spokesman for the force said: "Officers are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone who was driving near the area at about 12.20am on January 1, and may have caught a silver 3-Series BMW on dash-cam, to get in touch."
