New Year's Day tragedy as man dies after car hits tree

The crash happened in Old Hall Lane close to Pinfold Lane, Aldridge, in the early hours of New Year's Day

A man has died just minutes into the New Year after crashing into a tree close to a school.

The crash happened, in Old Hall Lane, Aldridge, close to Barr Beacon School.

The 37-year-old driver, from Walsall, was found with serious injuries just after midnight.

He was pronounced dead at the scene despite efforts of the emergency services.

West Midlands Police say his next of kin have been notified and are being supported by a specially-trained family liaison officer.

The car left the road and hit a tree just after midnight on New Year's Day

Crash scene investigators have been at the scene near Pheasey and Great Barr for several hours.

It is currently not known what caused the driver's BMW 3-Series to crash.

Police are seeking anyone with information or who may have caught the BMW on dash cam to get in touch.
