In the plans submitted to Walsall Council, 10 parking spaces have been provided, as well as a bike shed and communal bin store.

The derelict building was formerly the Board of Guardians’ Office for the Walsall Union Workhouse.

It is believed to have formed part of the administrative and residential accommodation associated with the workhouse and later hospital.

According to auctioneers Bond Wolfe, the property was built in 1899.

In December 2023 it went under the hammer with a guide price of £99,000 but sold for £236,000.

Agent Volta Designs said: “The proposal represents a sustainable, conservation-led approach to the reuse of a non-designated heritage asset.

“The scheme delivers high-quality homes that meet or exceed national space standards, incorporates sensitive alterations to enhance the building’s character, and provides appropriate provision for parking, cycling, and waste management.

“The development will secure the long-term future of the Former Governors House, contribute to the vitality of the area, and provide a positive example of the adaptive reuse of historic buildings for residential use.”
