Residents were urged to 'avoid' an area around Franchise Street in Darlaston after a fire broke out in car garage this morning (March 11).

Six firefighters and eight fire engines from West Midlands Fire Service attended the incident as firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were spotted regularly coming in and out of the building by reporter Dan Stacey.

A man was assessed at the scene by West Midlands Ambulance Service but was discharged at the scene with 'self care advice.'

A worker told the Express & Star that the fire, which was likely to have have been "caused by an electrical issue" has been extinguished, but a gas pipe in the building remains a concern.
