Watch: Work starts at Walsall’s newest Lidl set to create 40 jobs
Construction has started at Walsall’s newest Lidl which is set to provide 40 ‘well paid’ jobs for the area.
Plans were approved in February 2025 to demolish the former Buzz Bingo on Park Lane to make way for the new supermarket.
The branch, set to open in autumn 2026, will feature an in-store bakery, ‘middle of Lidl aisle’ and customer toilets.
The former Buzz Bingo closed its doors in 2020 and was left vacant ever since.
Plans were first submitted by the supermarket giant back in 2022 but it was later withdrawn.

A second application was submitted in 2023 but that was recommended for refusal by planning officers due to concerns over highway safety and the loss of trees on the site.
Members of Walsall Council’s planning committee voted to defer the decision while Lidl reviewed the highway concerns.
It was later approved by the authority’s planning officers.
The retail giant, part of the Schwarz Group, has recently celebrated the opening of its 1,000th store.
Joe Caunt, regional head of property at Lidl GB, said: “We’re sure residents will be delighted to hear we’re a step closer to bringing our much-loved products to Darlaston.
“Thank you to everyone who has supported us in our journey so far, we can’t wait to welcome you through our doors which are on track to open in autumn this year.”
