A Walsall man has been charged following a string of shop thefts - with one store in the town targeted two days in a row.

Ashley Haynes, aged 27, has been charged with four shop theft offences and is due to appear at Dudley Magistrates Court on 16 October.

West Midlands Police say the charge comes after items were stolen from a store on Lichfield Street on four occasions between 8 August and 3 September.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We’re catching hundreds more suspected shop thieves in the West Midlands as we continue to act against retail crime across the region.

"Arrests for shop theft offences have risen over 60% in the last two years as we’ve improved the way we respond to crime reports.

"Please report any incidents of retail crime by calling 101. Always call 999 in an emergency."
