'This baby deserves justice': Fresh appeal launched after newborn baby found dead in Walsall canal
A new appeal has been launched into the death of a newborn baby boy who was discovered in a Walsall canal over four years ago.
The baby boy was found in the Wyrley and Essington Canal at Rough Wood Country Park, near Willenhall, in May 2021, and since then, investigators have been working to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic death.
West Midlands Police have reassured that they are 'determined' to find answers, believing that with the public's help, they can give the baby boy the justice he deserves.
Launched the new appeal, Detective Superintendent Jim Munro, of West Midlands Police, said: "This baby boy deserves justice. His short life and tragic death must not be forgotten.
“We are determined to find answers, and with the public’s help, we believe we can.
“We’ll always act upon any new information provided to us. Please, if you have any information, get in touch. You can remain anonymous by giving information to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
The new appeal comes after the independent charity Crimestoppers offered a £10k reward for anyone who gives information that leads to an arrest and conviction, with the group offering anonymity for those offering information.
Alan Edwards, West Midlands regional manager at Crimestoppers, said: "This is a particularly sad and tragic case that has deeply affected the local community.
“We urgently need information that can help bring justice for this little boy and support for his mother. We believe someone out there knows something, and we want to encourage them to come forward anonymously.
“The £10,000 reward is offered to prompt anyone with information to speak up, no matter how small the detail."
Anyone who thinks they have information relating to the baby boy's death can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, or online at the Crimestoppers website.
