Faye Marshall, aged 13, pledged to run 50km in 10 days for the charity to help raise £500 in tribute to Robert Marshall, who passed away last year.

The 65-year-old died from kidney failure after a 10 year battle – along with Parkinson's – with his granddaughter committed to raising funds.

Faye's mother, Hayley Marshall, said: "Her grandfather had kidney failure and he passed away last year and it ws something she wanted to do.

"She said 'I want to do that for grandad' in his memory, really, and I was really proud of her for doing it.

"She's a boxer, so she's quite fit normally, but to do it for 10 days was a big ask – it was a lot of running and we're all really proud of her.

"I was a bit like 'are you sure?' at first because I know I certainly couldn't do it."

The teenager, from Rushall in Walsall, was named the as the Midlands 52kg Boxing champion after she won the regional event and progressed to the finals – where she claimed silver.

The Ormiston Shelfield Community Academy student has so far raised £420 through her Just Giving page – and has completed her run at Walsall Arboretum on August 24 having started 10 days before.

Her challenge has been supported by her father Scott Marshall, six-year-old brother Casey and nine-year-old sister Chloe.
