Streetly Cemetery is among those which have been closed down.

Bosses at Walsall Council said it had been a regrettable decision but was necessary as people flout social distancing measures.

Access to cemeteries, or crematoriums, is now strictly limited to funerals and cremations – with a maximum of 10 people permitted.

A spokesman said: "Whilst recognising the disappointment and distress this may cause those that routinely visit and tend the resting place of lost loved ones, the closure has been deemed as necessary as the battle with Covid-19 continues.

"These arrangements will remain in place for the foreseeable future but will be routinely reviewed in line with government guidance during the coronavirus pandemic."
