Salvatore Bongiovi, aged 80, died after he was struck on Lichfield Road, Walsall, in April.

Terry Poole, 41, appeared in court today where he pleaded not guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and a separate charge of dangerous driving.

Poole, of Meadowsweet Way, Bloxwich, wearing a black and yellow coat and grey jogging bottoms, spoke only to confirm his name and enter his pleas.

Mr Bongiovi died in hospital two days after the crash, which happened on April 19, near Rushall Care Home.

Following his death, his family released an emotional statement paying tribute to the much-loved grandfather.

The statement said: "The kindest, most loving and loved husband, father and grandfather, loved by everyone that met him.

"Taken from us so cruelly and in the most unimaginable way."
