Cyclist, 78, injured in hit-and-run collision in Stafford

A 78-year-old cyclist has suffered minor injuries during a hit-and-run collision in Stafford.

Police in Stafford have launched an appeal for information after the incident at the Doxey Road island junction with Pans Road at around 7.10pm yesterday (February 24).

Officers posted on Facebook: "We are appealing for witnesses after a road traffic collision occurred at around 7.10 in Stafford on the Doxey Road roundabout onto Pans Road. A car failed to stop after hitting a 78-year-old cyclist, and continued onto Pans Road.

"The vehicle at this stage is believed to be a small dark-coloured hatchback. Members of the public stopped immediately and administered aid to the cyclist who has come away with minor injuries.

"Inquiries into identifying the suspect vehicle are ongoing. We would like to remind the driver of the vehicle, or anybody who may know them, of their duty to report an accident to the police if they have not stopped within 24 hours, an offence of which carries a maximum term of imprisonment of six months and a mandatory endorsement of five to 10 penalty points or discretionary disqualification."

Anybody with information or who witnessed the incident should phone Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident 759 of February 24.
