A Staffordshire County Council notice dated March 10 said the path would be closed within seven days.

It said: "The closure is required due to the unsafe condition of the footbridge and subsequent works required. No alternative route is available.

"A plan will be displayed on site to show the length of path to be closed and unaffected rights of way in the area.

"This order came into operation on September 11, 2025 and has been extended for a further period of 12 months, until March 11, 2027 or until the risk of danger to the public is over, whichever is the earlier.

"This extension has been given approval by the Secretary of State. If necessary the order may be extended for a further period."

The path is part of the Staffordshire Way with picturesque views of Enville Hall.
