New plans in place for secure Perton dog walking facility

New plans have been submitted for a secure dog walking facility in Perton.

The area will be secure, sole-use for customers and allow for dogs to be off the lead, in an already popular area for dog walkers.

The five-acre-plus site has largely been unmanaged for the past decade, as a result it is overgrown and covered in brambles.

The facility will have no car parking and it is expected that customers would walk to the area from Dippons Lane.

Customers will be able to book the facility online, with slots of 50 minutes being available.

The first pen will be more than an acre and each pen will be fenced off with a five foot high fence with gated access.

It is also planned that a maintenance barn will be constructed, which will be solar powered to support CCTV across the site.

Currently there are no plans to connect the site with mains water supply. However, work started on the site in August, which involved removing the grass cutting and bramble removal.

The application follows a series of similar applications across the local area. It is also expected that the site will allow space for beekeepers that are currently operating on the site.

Mature trees and hedgerows will act as the boundary for the site.

Documents submitted by the applicant state: “Given the record levels of dog ownership in the UK, there is increasing demand for secure outdoor exercise areas.

"This proposal seeks to meet that need, providing a safe environment for dogs to be exercised off-lead.

“The location is highly suitable due to its proximity to Perton and its established popularity with local dog walkers.

"The site will require no on-site parking provision, as it is expected that customers will access the facility on foot via Dippons Lane.”

The application and all supporting documents can be viewed on the South Staffordshire Council’s planning portal under reference number 25/00363/FUL.

Public comments on the application can be made until August 21. Planning officers are set to look at the plans.
