Rugeley man charged after officers find knives

A 51-year-old man was arrested and charged after a tip-off from a member of the public lead to police finding two knives.

Andrew McElroy, from Rugeley, has been charged with possession of a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place.

Officers were called to Brook Square at around 1.20pm yesterday (Thursday, February 20) after a member of the public told a local PSCO that a man was in possession of a knife.

 McElory has been bailed to appear at Cannock Migistrates’ Court on Monday, March 3.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "A man has been charged after two knives were found following a stop-and-search in Rugeley town centre.

 "Andrew McElroy, 51, from Rugeley, has been charged with possession of a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place.

 "It comes after officers were called to Brook Square at around 1.20pm yesterday (Thursday, February 20) after a member of the public told a local PSCO that a man was in possession of a knife.

 "McElory has been bailed to appear at Cannock Migistrates’ Court on Monday, March 3."
