One lane of A38 closed as repair works halted due to flooding

One lane of the A38 south near Lichfield remains closed due to carriageway defects.

National Highways West Midlands has reported that one lane (of two) of the A38 south, between the A513 and the A5127, remains closed due to a carriageway defect. 

The announcement was made at around 5.16pm, with the highways authority warning of 20-minute delays in the area.

National Highways also warned that due to flooding from a nearby canal, repair works are unable to take place, with crews en route to clear flood water and allow emergency repairs to take place. 

A highways spokesperson said: "Lane one of two closed on the A38 south, between A513 (Hilliards Cross) and A5127 (Lichfield) due to a carriageway defect.

"Repairs are unable to take place due to flooding from the local canal, crew en route to clear floodwater and allow emergency repairs to take place. 

"Delays of 20 minutes reported."
