The petition, which can be signed online and at Cheslyn Hay Parish Council Office in Pinfold Lane, has been signed by more than 270 people so far. It urges the county council to “instigate an independent road safety survey” and “identify the most viable and publicly supported safety interventions, — which may include traffic lights, speed cameras, improved signage, pedestrian crossings or other calming measures.

The petition said: “Station Street has become a notorious stretch of road that causes daily danger and needless suffering for the residents of Cheslyn Hay, Great Wyrley, and Landywood. This isn’t just a problem — it’s a crisis that demands immediate action.

“Station Street is meant to be a lifeline for our community, connecting us to our schools, workplaces, and shops. Instead, it has become a daily danger zone.

“Speeding traffic, gridlock, smashed wing mirrors, and near-miss accidents are everyday occurrences that put lives at risk. The street’s current condition is not only inconvenient—it is outright unsafe.

For too long, this issue has been ignored by local authorities. But now, the residents are calling upon Staffordshire County Council to acknowledge the grave dangers of Station Street and to act decisively against them.

“Most importantly, we need Staffordshire County Council to prioritise the safety of its residents by conducting a thorough assessment of Station Street and implementing suitable changes without delay. The time for action is now – we owe it to our community to create a safer environment for everyone.”

Councillor Peter Mason, cabinet member for strategic highways at Staffordshire County Council, said: “The safety of all users of our highways network is our top priority. We take residents’ concerns seriously and work closely with local communities to understand the issues and explore viable solutions.

“We have commissioned a feasibility study for the road which will assess traffic speeds, accident statistics, parking demand and other relevant factors. Any identified actions, if required, would have to be prioritised against other priorities in the area.

“We will, of course, consider the petition once it has been received.”
