MP backs parents' calls for pedestrian crossing at Cannock blackspot after 12-year-old girl is hit by car
The parents of a 12-year-old girl hit by a car on a 'hazardous' road have called for a pedestrian crossing to be installed.
Andrew and Becky Defries have been backed by their MP Josh Newbury and local councillors in calling for safety improvements to a junction of the A5 in the Bridgtown area of Cannock.

The incident, on October 15, happened as the girl crossed from Walkmill Lane over to North Street, having been waved on by a van driver who stopped for her.
Though she walked away with only minor injuries, the near miss has reignited long-standing concerns about pedestrian safety on this major route.
Mr Newbury said he was 'appalled' previous calls for a crossing at the site had been ignored.
He said despite the area being a major crossing point for hundreds of long-standing and new residents alike, the issue had not been addressed.
Following a meeting with the girl’s family, Mr Newbury, chairman of Bridgtown Parish Council Bob Eccleston, deputy leader of Staffordshire County Council Councillor Martin Murray, and Councillor Jeff Hill of Cannock Chase District Council have issued a joint call to National Highways to install a pedestrian crossing at the A5 crossroads.
