The Cannock Branch Royal Engineers Association is holding its monthly meeting on Monday (October 6) at Bridgtown Social Club in Cannock and has put out an open invitation to all sappers past and present to attend.

Secretary John Stanley said the meeting was a chance to discuss matters for the association and also begin planning towards a busy period.

He said: "It's a meeting we have every month and we discuss all the points sent to me, as well as look at plans ahead.

"We've come to a very busy part of the year as we are now preparing for two Remembrance parades, with one in Bridgtown and then one a week later in Cannock."

Mr Stanley said the branch was run by people who are all ex-Royal Engineers, either in the reserve or the regular service, and said it was about carrying on with the traditions of the service and ensuring that there was a continued camaraderie.

He said: "It's all about keeping that continued link to the past and present and making sure that all the sappers have a place to go to and we have social events and activities, such as dinners.

"Monday will be about the members parade in Bridgtown and I will also be going through everything which has happened over the last month.

"We also have a Royal Engineers dinner in November which is a celebration called the Winter Dinner night and there's lots more to talk about there, so if you want to meet people of your own ilk, please come down as you will be made most welcome."

The meeting starts at 7pm on Monday at Bridgtown Social Club on Walsall Road in Cannock.
