'Keep windows and doors closed': 400-metre cordon erected after 'large' factory blaze in Cannock - man taken to hospital

The Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has urged residents to keep their windows and doors closed following a 'large factory fire' at around 9.30am on Swaffield Park, Cannock

The blaze was first reported by the fire service at around 10.58am today (July 30), with the fire service reporting that at least one person has been taken to hospital 'as a precaution'. 

A fire service spokesperson said: "We are currently at the scene of a large factory fire at Hyssop Close, Swaffield Park, Cannock, alongside colleagues from Staffordshire Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service.

"A 400-metre cordon has been put in place and the factory has been evacuated whilst we work to extinguish the fire."

"One man has been taken to the hospital as a precaution.

"We are urging all residents and businesses inside the cordon to keep their windows and doors closed."

Staffordshire Police said that the 400-metre cordon was put into place 'as a precaution' and that a man was taken to hospital with 'breathing difficulties'.

A police spokesperson said: "We were called at 9.30am this morning by our colleagues at Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service to reports of a factory fire at Swaffield Park, Hyssop Close, Cannock.

"One man was taken to hospital with breathing difficulties after being given oxygen by the fire service."

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed that one man had been treated for smoke inhalation before being transferred to hospital. 

An ambulance spokesperson added: "We were called to a fire at an address on Swaffield Park off Hyssop Close, Cannock, at 9.51am and sent an ambulance and paramedic officer to the scene. 

"On arrival, crews found one man who was treated for suspected smoke inhalation and conveyed to Stafford County Hospital."
