New retail and leisure park planned for former ammo dump near Lichfield
Bombs and bullets are being cleared from a Second World War ammunition dump to pave the way for retail and leisure development.
Developer M Core has applied to build a new retail and leisure park on the 'blue hoarded' site off Milestone Way, creating 52,000 sq ft of floor space.
The site has been vacant for 30 years, and has picked up its nickname from the blue hoardings that have been erected around it.
The scheme will include two large units for retail or leisure use, and three drive-through units.
Work clearing the site is set to be completed this month. If approval is granted, construction can start in autumn, with a view to the site opening in September next year.
Nick Bryson of M Core's subsidiary LCP, said: “We’re thrilled to have now formally submitted the planning application for the 'blue-hoarded' site in Burntwood.
“This is a location that has stood empty for decades, so we’re delighted to take another step forward towards developing this site into a thriving retail and leisure scheme for the local community.”
Councillor Darren Ennis, who leads Burntwood Town Council, said: “It’s brilliant to see this kind of development coming to Burntwood.
“Not only does it bring quality jobs to the area, but it also delivers the kinds of businesses our community both wants and needs. I’m excited to see which operators this new development will attract to the area.”
