Four homes approved for former Staffordshire builders merchant site
A former builders’ merchant building can be demolished to make way for four new homes in South Staffordshire.
Planning officers recommended the proposals for Kelsall Builders Merchants at Boulton Lane, Great Saredon, for approval ahead of Tuesday’s South Staffordshire Council planning committee meeting.

The application was referred to the committee for consideration because it requires the diversion of an existing Public Right of Way which crosses the application site. Committee members voted unanimously to approve the plans on Tuesday (February 17).
A report to the committee said: “The site is considered to be previously developed land and it has been demonstrated that the proposed development will result in a reduced impact upon the openness of the West Midlands Green Belt over the existing onsite built form. As such the development does not form inappropriate development within the Green Belt and therefore no very special circumstances are required for this development.
“The development would also make a significant contribution to the Housing Land Supply within the district. The application is for four dwellings, for all market housing; there are two house types/designs proposed but five bed in scale.
“A new access is proposed off Boulton Lane which will have a total width of 9m and the private access road will have a width of 4.5m – this will accommodate two vehicles to enter and exit the site access simultaneously. The existing site access will be made redundant as a result of this proposal.”
