Major junction upgrade for new homes in Lichfield will now end by Christmas
A major junction upgrade for new homes in Lichfield will end by the festive season.
The A5192 Eastern Avenue junction with Watery Lane in Lichfield is getting additional lanes, new traffic lights, road resurfacing, new and improved paths, signs and road markings, improved drainage, and a new controlled pedestrian crossing in Eastern Avenue.
It is for the new Redrow Homes Curborough Lakes 470 homes development.
Staffordshire Council said final surfacing and road marking works will take place December 1-12 December. There will be overnight road closures 7pm- -7am in both directions and a signed diversion will be in place. The scheme had originally been scheduled to finish next month, but unforeseen issues with utility company drainage resulted in a slight scheme redesign. Property owners directly affected by the closures will be notified nearer the time.

County highways chief Councillor Peter Mason said: "This is a major upgrade to the junction on the busy Eastern Avenue which will provide safe access to the new housing development. While this developer-funded scheme was due to finish in November there have unfortunately been some unforeseen utility issues, so we apologise for the delay.
"The December works will take place overnight to minimise disruption and will be completed well ahead of Christmas. We will remind people of the closures closer to the time and publish the diversion route. We’d again like to thank people for their patience while work has been carried out.”
The new homes cost up to £700,000.
In 2021 residents called for improvements at the Eastern Avenue-Grange Lane junction following a fatal crash involving motorcyclist Luke Cotton, aged 22 .
