Staff at Teddy Bears Nursery were devastated when nursery nurse Victoria Powers died, aged 35, on July 6 last year following a secondary cancer diagnosis.

The mother-of-one, who had worked at the nursery in Long Lane for 15 years, had been diagnosed with breast cancer just days before her 28th birthday, in April 2017.

Victoria made the tough decision to have  a double mastectomy to reduce the risk of re-diagnosis after genetic testing showed she carried the faulty version of the BRCA2 gene.

In 2018, Victoria completed a 5k Race for Life to raise funds for research and celebrate the end of her treatment.
