Mark Shorthouse, 55, took the witness stand to give evidence in the first day of the case for the defence in the trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

Shorthouse was shown CCTV of father-of-two Matthew Adams being battered outside The Gough Arms in the early hours of March 19, 2023. The 33-year-old died four days later.

Shorthouse admitted he did not remember a lot of the night but after watching him kicking and punching Mr Adams.

He said: "I vaguely remember escorting him out of the pub. I do not remember a lot of the night."

Shorthouse, of Sandwell, could be seen throwing a punch and missing, aiming a kick and missing, and then following the melee until he got closer to Mr Adams when he punched him to the ground. Before kicking him again on the floor.
