Drivers warned of major disruption after crash on M6 near Wednesbury

Drivers were warned of major disruption on the M6 near Wednesbury following a crash this morning.

The incident, which involved an overturned van, happened on the M6 northbound between J8 (M5) and J9 for Wednesbury on Friday. 

Two lanes were closed but have since reopened.

Motorists had been urged to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journey. 

Following the incident, National Highways said there were delays of at least 30 minutes on the M6 and M5 on approach to the incident. 

In an update just after noon, the agency said: "Recovery is complete and all lanes are now running on the #M6 northbound between J8 #M5 and J9 #Wednesbury following an earlier collision. There are residual delays of at least 40 minutes on the M6 and M5 on approach to where the incident was, however this should start to ease."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said:  "We were called to reports of an RTC on the M6 between junction 8 and 9 in Wednesbury at 10.40am and sent an ambulance to the scene. On arrival, there were no patients requiring our assistance and we were stood down."
