Pictures shared on Facebook on Thursday evening showed water flooding a section of the busy Crankhall Lane road in Wednesbury due to a burst manhole.

Heavy downpours hit the West Midlands region last night which was a huge factor in causing the manhole to burst.

However, local residents say that the issue with the manhole bursting has been ongoing any time there is rain.

The manhole is located on the road just outside the laundry service ELIS Wednesbury and opposite Manor Road.

An individual who works in the area, who did not want to be named, revealed that the manhole appears "cracked" or "dislodged" which is continuously causing problems.

The person said: "It's cracked so it opens out. The plate isn't straight.

"It's got an opening so it gets like that every time there's a lot of rain. It happens all the time.

"It also doesn't help that you've got HGVs driving past all of the time".

The laundry service ELIS sees a lot of HGVs delivering goods to the factory on Crankhall Lane which could be a factor in the damage to the manhole.
