Buses diverted and road closed due to 'emergency services incident' on main road through Smethwick
Buses have been diverted following reports of an incident in Smethwick this morning (March 11).
Transport operator National Express West Midlands has confirmed that its 11A and 11C services are diverting in both directions via Hagley Road, Barnsley Road and Sandon Road due to an "incident."
Meanwhile, service 82 is also operating on a diversion. Buses travelling from Bearwood are running via Three Shires Oak, Barclay Road, Lightwoods Road and Adkins Road.
Services heading towards Bearwood are being diverted via St Mary’s Road, Barclay Road and Abbey Road while the disruption continues.
The transport operator has apologised to passengers for any disruption caused to their journeys.
Transport for West Midlands added: "Due to ongoing disruption, the following @NXWestMidlands bus services are currently impacted: 11A, 11C, 48, 49, 82."
West Midlands Roads said that the road around Sandon Road Junction, adding that motorists should: "Allow extra time for your journey and consider alternative routes where possible."
A West Midlands Ambulance spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of an incident on Bearwood Road in Smethwick at 1.32am and sent an ambulance, two paramedic officers and a MERIT trauma doctor with a critical care paramedic to the scene.
"On arrival, crews found a man who they treated for serious injuries before conveying him under emergency driving conditions to hospital."
