Rimmell George, 38, of no fixed abode in Sandwell, was jailed for two years and one month at Wolverhampton Crown Court for his disturbing home invasion in which he terrified a mother and daughter.

At 7am on April 3 this year George punched a front door and smashed a lantern at a house in Bainbridge Road, Smethwick, and then walked to Crown Street a few minutes away. He climbed over a back fence and broke in through the back door as a teenage girl was letting her dog out.

George chased the girl through the house and her screams alerted her mother, who locked the pair in the bathroom and called 999. Whilst cowering in the bathroom they could hear George setting fire to items in various rooms, shouting, and rummaging through their belongings, the court heard.

He ripped the radiator off a wall, undressed and covered himself in lotion, set items on fire and tore up the girl's school books before police entered the property. Officers had to pepper spray him to stop him attacking.

George pleaded guilty to burglary and damage to property after being deemed mentally fit to be prosecuted.
