The Warley Woods Community Trust has announced that its Halloween Trail event, which was due to take place on October 31, has been cancelled in light of the death of a man in the woods.

A member of the public found the body of a man in Warley Woods, in Smethwick, at around 12.30pm on Sunday (October 19). West Midlands Police has said that the death is "not being treated as suspicious".

Today (Wednesday) a Warley Woods Community Trust spokesperson said: "Due to the very sad death in Warley Woods on Sunday, October 19, we have decided that it would be best to cancel our Halloween event that was due to take place on October 31.

"We are very sorry to the children who will be disappointed, but we hope that they will be able to enjoy the Scarewood Trail locally instead."

The trust said that sweet treats will still be available in the shop at the Pavilion until it closes at 4pm.

The spokesperson added: "We will have sweet treats available in the shop at the Pavilion until it closes at 4pm if anyone is passing in costume and wants to 'trick or treat' us.

"We have contacted everyone who has prebooked tickets and have processed refunds. Thank you."

The Halloween event was due to take place at the Pavilion between 6pm and 7pm.

West Midlands Police had said on Sunday: "A man was found unresponsive in Warley Woods at around 12.30pm today by a member of the public.

"Sadly, he was confirmed dead at the scene.

"His death is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner in due course."
