Guru Nanak Gurdwara Smethwick installs what's believed to be the world’s largest solar panel system on a Sikh place of worship

The UK’s oldest and largest Sikh Gurdwara, in Smethwick, is taking a lead on cutting carbon emissions with the installation of a huge solar panel system - believed to be the largest installation of its kind on any Sikh place of worship in the world.

Guru Nanak Gurdwara Smethwick has installed a 195KW solar panel system on its roof - featuring 420 high-performance solar panels (producing 465 watts each) which is now now actively powering the Gurdwara to deliver substantial environmental and financial benefits.

The system, installed by a local business - Green Tech Hub Limited in Oldbury, will generate enough renewable electricity to power the equivalent of 50 homes annually and it is expected to cut carbon emissions by approximately 78,277 kg each year, equivalent to planting more than 3,500 trees annually.
