'It's beyond a joke' - Fire in Smethwick involving two tonnes of waste blamed on fly-tippers
A fire in Smethwick involving around two tonnes of waste and metal has been blamed on repeated fly-tipping in the area.
West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) crews were called to the fire on Anne Road at 5.45am today (August 6). The fire service urged people to avoid the area and keep their doors and windows shut when possible.
They were able to get the blaze under control quickly, and left the scene before 10am.

A post on the fire service's X account at 6.50am said: "Fire crews are in attendance dealing with a fire on Anne Road in Smethwick. Please avoid the area where possible and keep windows and doors closed."
A WMFS spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 5.45am on Wednesday to a fire involving waste and storage containers on Anne Road, Smethwick.
