'Gun' and 300 cannabis plants recovered in police raid on derelict building in Smethwick

Police have recovered a 'gun' and 300 cannabis plants after raiding a drug den hidden inside a derelict building in Smethwick.

The raid was conducted at the site of the former Avenue Bar and Restaurant in Rolfe Street, Smethwick by the Sandwell Priority Crime Team and West Bromwich neighbourhood officers after a warrant was issued yesterday morning (August 1).

West Midlands Police say they found around 300 cannabis plants, Class A drugs and cash. 

What officers initially believed to be a 'gun' was recovered from inside a printer at the scene. However, it was later determined to be a 'realistic' imitation firearm.

A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of producing cannabis, possession with intent to supply drugs and possession of an imitation firearm. 

He has been bailed pending further enquiries.
