Technology company Cornerstone has applied for consent to install the equipment at a site off Roway Lane, Oldbury.

The scheme, just over half a mile from Sandwell & Dudley railway station, will include a single pole, with 12 antennae and two 2ft dishes on top.

There will also be a ground-level compound containing seven cabinets, surrounded by an 8ft fence at the site behind Direct House on the Direct 2 Industrial Park.

The company has cited a letter from technology minister Sir Chris Bryant, which urges local authorities to 'champion' infrastructure development.

The proposals will now be considered by Sandwell Council planners.
