Delays on M5 after car hits barrier
A traffic collision on a busy motorway section has caused delays to people heading into the region.
The outside lane on the M5 northbound between Junctions 3, for Quinton, and 2, near Oldbury, was closed following the collision, which saw a vehicle hit the central barrier and go into a spin.
The incident, which took place at 8.56am today, saw traffic backed up for nearly two miles, with delays of around 15 minutes due to a diesel spill.
Officers from Highways England attended the scene and deployed a material to absorb the diesel spill, before working to repair damage to the barrier.
Traffic was held for a short period before the inside and middle lanes were opened for use.
A spokesman for Highways England said: "The inside lane of the northbound carriageway was closed due to a collision where a car spun around after colliding with the central barrier at 8.56am.
"There was also a diesel spillage after the car hit the barrier and our traffic officers were deployed to the scene quickly.
"After checking the driver and finding no injuries, they deployed a material to absorb the diesel spill.
"Traffic was held briefly while this took place, before released along the two lanes at 9.43am.
"A recovery team is on the way to recover the vehicle and teams are working to repair damage to the barriers, which is not significant."
