The Blind Dave Colour Run, named after Sandwell running hero blind Dave Heeley, was organised by the Albion Foundation and attracted 500 runners this past Saturday at Sandwell Valley Country Park.

All the money raised went to the foundation, which provides sporting opportunities to disadvantaged people across the Black Country.

The foundation praised the 'incredible event' on social media while Blind Dave added: "It was brilliant, absolutely superb. It is the first time I have done a fun run like this and it was amazing. The weather certainly helped.

"Everybody was asking me at the end if it is going to be an annual event and well I hope it will be. It would lovely to host it again.

"It was sold out with 500 people and the mayor gave us a few words.

"I'll tell you what whoever was throwing the paint had better aim than Albion's forward line, I was covered in the stuff. I was singing going round and I felt like I was a magnet for paint, I'm sure I swallowed some as well.

"There were lots of children there and they were in their element with paint flying everywhere."

Asked about the Albion Foundation, for which he is an ambassador, Blind Dave added: "I could spend a week talking about where their organisation does. They support the disabled and the under privileged and the staff are so loyal."

The run was the latest in Blind Dave's great run series taking place this year, in which he aims to raise £24,000 for the Albion Foundation.

So far he has raised more than £4,000 with his next runs being the Great Aberdeen Half Marathon and the Great Aberdeen 10k on August 27.

Asked about how his runs are going, which have so far this year included the Great Birmingham 10k and Great Manchester Half Marathon, Blind Dave said: "Touch wood it is going ok. I have picked up a few niggles but I am doing ok."
