'Repaired' pothole near Stourbridge caused £8,000 damage to my BMW, says fishmonger

A motorist says his car was left needing £8,000 repairs after he drove over a giant pothole near Stourbridge - despite the council claiming it had already been repaired.

John Perry said the pothole, in Chester Road, Enville, wrecked the suspension of his BMW 3-series, leaving the bodywork touching the wheel.

But Staffordshire Council, which is responsible for maintaining the highway, said the pothole had already been repaired and was therefore not liable for the cost of the damage.

Mr Perry says he is concerned the hole, which is 5in deep and 3ft long, is putting public safety at risk.

"It's a danger to the public," said Mr Perry, a door-to-door fishmonger who lives near Kinver.
