What was life like for Black Country civilians in the First World War? Historian reveals all
The First World War from a Black Country civilian perspective will be the focus of a talk by historian Quintin Watt tomorrow night (Thursday).
The retired schoolteacher and author will be guest speaker at Sedgley Local History Society, giving an illustrated presentation entitled 'Over by Christmas'.

He will look at how people in the region reacted to the outbreak of the war at the event at St Andrew's Church in Bilston Street.
Mr Watt, who now lives in Sedgley, moved to the West Midlands from London in 1979. He studied history at St David’s College, University of Wales, later completing an MA in West Midlands Regional History at Wolverhampton University.
He taught history at South Bromsgrove High School for 39 years, and was also Worcestershire’s teacher adviser for the subject.
He published a book, Wolverhampton’s Great War, 1914-1921, in 2020, and has since completed a second MA, on Britain and the First World War.
